Driving into Askari, there is a sense of great anticipation as the count down in kilometres starts to your destinations as you wind your way through the conservation park to the lodge.
After spotting magnificent male kudu’s, zebra and wildebeest along the way the city fades into a distant memory, along with your stresses and worries, leaving you free to soak up the African bush’s lullaby.
Askari Lodge is a unique combination of historical relics, bush and African Baroque that holds new surprises around every corner. The accommodation is a reflection of their surroundings with beautiful vintage patterned linen complimented with exquisite wooden cabinets you wish you could take home. But my personal favourite was the deep claw foot bath that invites you to a late night soak.
Askari offers guests guided bush walks, late afternoon or early morning bush drives or for something life changing an Elephant interaction. But if these are not for you then maybe the fabulous spa with spark your interest. If history fascinates you then take your time and wondering through the biggest private collection of wooden oxen wagons and the heritage museum.
If you are a foodie you will not be disappointed with an extensive and well-designed menu your taste buds are in for a treat each dish is a combination of flavour fireworks, the lodge boasts a well versed wine list compiled in conjunction with Zorgvliet wines.
